Presented by the Ink Society
Kathy Mak gave a presentation on the highly nationalistic ink painting This Land So Rich in Beauty by Fu Baoshi and Guan Shanyue, commissioned for the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, in 1959. She examined the monumental work within the context of global connections between China and leftist communities during the Cold War, where murals were produced to construct national pride and identity.
Kathy Mak is Assistant Professor of Chinese art history at the Department of Chinese Culture, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
